Where the new research begins
Update to the October Next Fest demo and work past the point where the older demo ended. Electromagnetic Science is the additional research the developer introduced for players who had reached that earlier stopping point. If you're following an older guide, its endpoint can make the new objective look unavailable.
Follow the opening research route
Start with the usual mining and station loop. Gather ore from the starting belt, refine it, then set up production to supply the research you're working on. The earlier demo description treats the Slipstream Drive as the milestone at the end of its opening technology tiers. That makes it a useful landmark when comparing older instructions with the October build.
Use playtest materials as a clue
The September playtest sent players to other sectors in the starting system for cobalt and graphite as they moved into Electromagnetic and Quantum Science. If the new branch asks for materials you aren't producing, read the objective in your current build and use it to decide what to mine next. The playtest route helps explain the jump from local factory work to sector-scale logistics. Use the official Next Fest demo update to confirm which branch the October release added.
FAQ
Can I unlock this in the October demo?
Yes. The October update explicitly added Electromagnetic Science beyond the earlier demo content.
Is Electromagnetic Science the same milestone as the Slipstream Drive?
They serve different purposes. The drive opens access to more of the starting system. Electromagnetic Science is a later research milestone in the documented progression.
Should I stockpile cobalt and graphite before checking the research?
Read the current objective first. Both resources were part of the September playtest's later science path, so they're useful leads when planning a mining trip.
